Discipline Series
We kick off our discipline series by starting with the faith pillar and getting honest about why “perfect routines” usually backfire. We share simple ways to build a daily devotional and prayer habit that survives busy mornings, plus how faith should shape our decisions at home and at work.
• why faith discipline is hard to measure but easy to neglect
• building a morning routine with Proverbs and a daily devotional
• praying with your spouse when it feels awkward
• using habit stacking and the “Bible cold bar” to stay consistent
• avoiding reactive prayer and making space for silence
• letting faith anchor decisions in the workplace through conviction
• where to start reading if you’re new to Scripture
• a four-week framework to go from zero to rhythm
We launched the wait list for rising tribes, the link is in the show notes.
Let us know your feedback! We'd love to hear from you!
Stop Chasing The Perfect Routine
SPEAKER_01Routine and if I didn't do it exactly the way I had it in my head, then then ultimately I was failing in my face. And I finally came to the realization of like, oh man, like it doesn't there is no perfect routine.
Discipline Series And Four Pillars
SPEAKER_00Alright, welcome to the Rise and Tribes Podcast. I am Nick Urankar with Braxton Cave, and today we are going to start a four-week discipline series. I guess we can call it a series, right? Yeah. And if you're watching on YouTube, you'll see we are holding our mics today. Cheers. We got a new table. And if you're not following us on YouTube, you should go on YouTube because you can watch all the shenanigans. Um, but and this beautiful table, which we need to find stands for. So if you have any recommendations on mic stands on a rounded bottom table, I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_01I think Jake's got us covered with a tabletop stand. We'll be all right. I wish we should have filmed us moving this damn thing around. It was quite the struggle. Um, it's a lot heavier than maybe it looks on on camera. But yeah, I mean, part of the the go forward plan here for the next four weeks, obviously, Jake dives in, does a lot of research for us to find out what you know, what are people looking for in a podcast episode? What are people researching and searching for? And in the continued topic that comes up is discipline. And so we thought, what better way than to touch on what does discipline look like in each of our four pillars? So faith, family, fitness, and leadership. We're gonna hit each week on each pillar and dive in and you know, let you guys know like what's worked for us, what hasn't, where have we struggled, where have we found success in those routines and disciplines? And hopefully some of that is is helpful to you, and hopefully we get some responses from the viewers that can help us as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And today we're gonna start with faith because we believe that is the foundation uh where everything else
Morning Devotional With Your Spouse
SPEAKER_00stands.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, one of the really cool things that Natalie and I have started recently because the weather is finally nice here, is you know, we get up in the morning and we go out on our back patio. Um, obviously the kids are still sleeping, so we get a little bit of our own time, and we just sit out there together and do our daily devotional. And right now, uh through the month of July, uh our church is doing a chapter of Proverbs every day, and which it's it's perfect. 31 chapters and 31 days in the month, so it just it lines up to give you a good routine and practice. And so uh we've been going through and doing our daily devotional and reading our chapter and then praying together before the day gets started, and it's like what a difference maker starting your day like that. I think the other thing to remember is that hasn't always been part of our routine praying together. I think for whatever reason, like myself included, it's like awkward to pray with another person. Agree. Especially even more silly that it's awkward to pray with the person that you're closest with. And you know, since we've you know, uh we pray with our kids every day.
SPEAKER_00Isn't it interesting though? It's really awkward, but if you've prayed with somebody like say five nights in a row, it becomes less awkward, right? It's like anything, once you're gonna be able to do it. But that same person, you don't do it for six months and you're like, Yeah, like it's weird. It's one thing that it becomes, it's almost like it yeah, it just feels uncomfortable. Because that's currently Chelsea and I have not been praying together. Um, so hearing you say that, I'm like, ah, that that's kind of one of the biggest things with discipline, being around disciplined people, hearing, like you said, you're having always you're getting back into that. And like that makes me say, we need to get back into that. Um but we I love that you guys are going out and doing that. We actually, and I say we, it was Chelsea. Um, she pulled out her Bible and opened it up to Proverbs probably five days ago. And just every time we'd go by it, we'd see it open, and she'd be like, hey girls, this is what we're gonna do starting on the first. If you want to, we'd love a whole family to do it. So we basically just have it churned that for that day where we are, so that as you're walking by to go to the kitchen from the living room, it's just opened up to Proverbs. So for me, I haven't actually read it out of that, but every time I sit down, I see it and I pull it up on my app on my phone, or I go, and that and I'll just listen or read it. And I'm like, man, it's just a great way to have it set in front of you as
Habit Stacking The Bible Cold Bar
SPEAKER_00a reminder. It's like the the Bible cold bar. Yeah. It's it well, both the girls.
SPEAKER_01If people don't know what the cold bar is, you might have to explain that one for them. Well, you explained it. Well, you did.
SPEAKER_00I've never done it. Okay, the cold, so the cold bar. Bible cold bar is basically like you're gonna be walking by something. So we used to do this with or a guy started this with a deadlift bar. So what you would do is you'd put weight on a bar, and in order to go from like the front of the gym to like the back, you'd have to pass this bar, and anytime you passed it, you had to lift it. And you had to do it, you didn't warm up, it just taught you how to lift cold. So we called it the cold bar. And you can essentially do this with anything. Um, and it's a I would say that this is kind of a James Clear thing where you habit stack. So if you know you're automatically gonna be walking from down the stairs into the kitchen and you want to read your Bible, well, you put your Bible in between the stairs in the kitchen. So for me, and I think for everybody, it's very easy to say, oh, I'm gonna, I'm gonna today, I'm gonna start and I'm gonna read every day in my Bible and I'm gonna start my, you know, my morning routine, blah, blah, blah. But then you wake up and you you don't have the Bible in front of you, you grab your coffee, you sit down, you scroll on your phone, and next thing you know, you have to leave and you're like, shoot, I forgot to read. So by habit stacking or stacking something you want to do in front of something you already do is a great way to create discipline without having to force it.
Faith Discipline Without A Scoreboard
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01So I mean, but just talking on the topic of faith and what that routine looks like, uh, it's one that I have never been perfect in. And I've talked about this on the podcast in the past of, you know, when when life gets busy or, you know, there's stuff going on. My morning routine of faith discipline is usually the first thing that gets cut short. And it's always, oh, well, I don't have time this morning. Like I'm hurrying up, I've got to get to the gym before the kids get up, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I come up with all these reasons, and I'm my response in my head is always, well, I'll do it later before I go to bed, or what you know, later in the day when I get an opportunity. And you that opportunity never comes.
SPEAKER_00It's the same as I like to compare because fitness for me is is simple, but I would also say I'm not perfect in that. And I think nobody is. We take a week off. We have right, same thing with our faith. And with fitness and faith, it's it's easy to push it all off and say, oh, I'll do it later, or or you know what, this is tough. I'm just gonna not do that today. And for me, faith and fitness are very similar in the sense of like I can not do it for a few days, and it's in my head that I haven't been doing it. Right? It's like when you don't work out for a few days, you're like, shoot, I haven't worked out. Almost everything that we do, I try not to say like, oh, well, faith is less important because I think it's hard to measure. How do we measure our faith? Whereas I could easily see, like, well, I'm getting fitter or I'm losing weight, or oh, my relationship is better because we're having our communication. But really, like if you're not having a conversation with God and you're able to listen and and really see the fruits, if we don't take that time, it's hard to really see the benefits. And for me, the more time I spend quiet in the word around people who are wanting to grow in their faith as well, it's just like going to the gym. You go to the gym and you're around people getting in shape, it makes you want to get in shape, makes you want to do those things. You have to put yourself in places where people are trying to be just like you. Find a good church, connect with people in your church. So for me, I try to look at faith and say, if I'm putting all this time on making sure that my fitness and my health and my family and my relationship, all these things are on point, I have to be doing that the same way. I have to be putting the same kind of pressure. And for me, pressure is putting myself in a place that makes that a priority. And a lot of times that's people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, you you hit it on the head there when with on the faith aspect, it's like it's you can't there is no way to really measure it, right? Like one of the apps that I use in doing daily devotional, like it has a tracker, right? So we love to see like having a streak going. Um but for me, it's like when I when I feel called out by the spirit, is often when you know I'm sitting with other people who are stronger in their faith than me. And I hear the way they they talk about their walk in faith. And and it's again, it's not something you can measure, it's something you can feel. And you know, I that's where and I hate that I maybe look at it as like a it's not a comparison game uh between like who has stronger faith or who's reading more scripture, because I'm also a big believer of like you can read as much scripture as you want, but if you're not put it into practice, it's no different than you could watch a million YouTube videos of how to lift weights and read the books and do all the things. If you're not actually picking up the bar, yeah, you're not you're not getting better, you're not growing, you're not stretching yourself. And so, you know, another way that I often will catch myself when I feel like I'm slipping backwards is like when I'm not consistent in my prayer routine, or my prayers feel like they become instead of a a conversation with God, it's uh like I'm constantly asking for things. And or it's uh probably a better way to say it is like more of a reactive prayer. Something's going on, and I'm asking for help in this instead of being proactive and thinking about these things and just being intentional in my walk versus I'm in a storm, God. Here we go again. I need you. I I haven't been coming to you while the waters were still, but here we are again.
SPEAKER_00I feel like sometimes I fall into like a forced prayer where it's like, oh now I should pray now. And then you sit and you're like, okay, what am I what do I have to say? I I personally love just the sitting and I mean the Shia LaBeouf, what he's like, I I personally like to sit because when I start praying and I'm talking, I feel like I need to like fill the air. As weird as that might is to say with God, like whether it's in my head, whether it's out loud, like I'm filling the air. And that I think sometimes it's not all about us. And when I can sit and be quiet and allow there to be time, it's kind of like you ever go to service and they're like, all right, you know, just take a minute before I pray and just like kind of like take in what's going on, think about what's happening in your life, think about the details. Instead of it being, oh my shoot, my kids, it's horrible. And that it's like, think about what's actually happening in your life first. Take some time. It doesn't have to be this forced, I gotta start right now. And I think for me, a lot of times it'll be, you know, I sit with my daughter and I'm like, all right, let's pray. And instead of it being like, hey, let's like take two or three minutes and like just you have a like listen to what God is putting on your heart first, and then let's start. And anytime that I've done that, it I feel there's just so much more growth I have in me because I'm not trying to do it for a a score. And I do really good sometimes, and majority of the time I do really bad. And that's something I think that we are always uh I believe that we are trying to improve and where I think we're challenging everybody in discipline is discipline isn't perfect. Discipline isn't isn't saying I did it every day. It's saying when I don't do it, I understand where I fell short, and it's not doing it perfect. It's it's not saying that I do it right or you do it right. I think it's for all of us, it's saying, am I growing in a direction that bears good fruit?
Conviction Driven Decisions At Work
SPEAKER_01So I was just having this conversation a couple of days ago with one of my my uh business mentors, and we were both talking about how you know how you how do you navigate, you know, your faith in the workplace. Right. And it's like I don't ever want to be or need to be the guy who talks about my faith, you know, to I want my faith to be shown through my actions, how I speak, how I act, how I make decisions. Um and I came across, you know, in doing some research for this, for this episode, you know, one of the quotes that really stood out to me as I was writing was the man without faith without a faith anchor makes decisions from ego, fear, or the crowd. The man anchored in faith makes decisions from conviction. And so where I think a lot of people get it twisted is like when we're out, you know, whether you're an athlete or what I like to call a business athlete in the workplace, like you're trained to be an assassin, right? Like you go out there and you get it done. But how you get it done can be very different, right? Whether you're doing it from that that self-side or the careless side or trying to screw someone over, versus you can still be an assassin and do it the right way. And that almost goes back to I've been asking this question to myself, and I've talked to it about talked to um some other people about it since I started my career in business 10 years ago. Of like, you read so many stories of you know successful entrepreneurs, CEOs, high-level people that got to the top by cutting everyone's feet out from underneath them. And then once they got there, then they became this you know pillar of great human 180, yeah, 180, giving to charities, doing all these things. But those who know the whole story can never see them that way. And I've always asked the question, like, does it always have to be that way? There's gotta be another way, and but it's hard, right?
SPEAKER_00It's a it's it's not unjust. Yeah, I think we all know somebody who is successful that we're like, they did not do that in a way that I would have done it. And then sometimes I think we think, well, I'm not that successful because I didn't do that, which is what you're saying is like, does it always have to be that way? And I think the answer is no, and I think we all believe that. But when you're deep in it and you see it and you're somebody who's been burned and you've lost something because of that person, it makes it hard to think, well, yeah, but it's harder this way. Like we always try to find, you know, reasons how people got where they are and what they've done. And I think a lot of examples that we have are not good examples, but they're also there's not a lot of examples that we have or that we view. I mean, we see like the top CEOs of big companies, corporate. We don't know. We we create our own stories. And I think that for me, when it comes to like my faith journey, I try to not look at, okay, how has this person done this? What how do most people do it? What's uh I try not to generalize, and instead I say, where am I going and what is God trying to use me for? And yes, I might come and interact with certain people who aren't doing it a way that I would want, or maybe I come in contact with somebody who instead of comparing myself to them, I say, I want to be more like that person. Cause I think that we all, our goal is to be more like Jesus. And I think there are a lot of people on this earth that are doing a great job and aren't him, but we can try to be more like. And the easiest way to be more like somebody is to be around those people more. And that's what I think a lot of what we're trying to do is like if you want to grow your faith, get around people who are trying to grow their faith and who know people who have strong faith. And they're not gonna be perfect, but they're gonna be able to say, Hey, I've been in the season of life you're in. Here's what I've learned, here's some things that have worked for me. They may not even be in the best place right now, but they can always be helping you. And I think it's getting around people that say, Hey, I'm gonna struggle too, you're gonna struggle, I wanna be there for you. And I think in our faith journey, just like you said, it's hard to pray with somebody. If it's hard to pray with somebody, you're probably gonna do it alone. How are we going to open up and become our best selves and get closer to God? Like, without being able to do that with other people. So right now inside of me, I'm already thinking, like, man, I need to get back to praying with my wife more.
SPEAKER_01Isn't it interesting that you know if you it's kind of like no-brainer common sense stuff, right? If if I'm not fit, I want to get fit, I usually hire a trainer who's fit. If I'm not financially stable and I want to become, I hire a financial advisor. Like, but when it comes to faith, it's like one of those things that we look at and we're like, ugh, like I probably should do this on my own first. And then maybe once I get to a certain point, then I'll reach out to because is it a feeling of embarrassment or I don't know what that is.
SPEAKER_00I don't know, but do you know what I think about all the time? What is how let's take tithing out, okay, and giving to the church, and like let's let's pretend like that, because okay, we tip our servers, right? Like, but you go go to church every single Sunday and pretend like you were paying a thousand dollars to walk in the door to hear what they were saying. That would be life-changing. The amount I think sometimes I walk in and I'm like, we aren't paying for this. Like, yes, we can tip, right? We can we can give some money or not. But we're not paying for this. And what we are getting is like they say read your Bible, right? They say wake up and every day, and you're like, ah, it's hard. But when you do it, you're like, oh, that was a great scripture, and then you go into a place that's like, oh yeah, let me go ahead and like 100x so much information about what you just read and what this is, and I can transform your life. And and we're just like, that was okay, but like it was free. I just look and I think if we all paid a thousand dollars to walk in to one service, you would walk out transformed.
SPEAKER_01Well, I think it's no different than you know, a lot of people pay a thousand plus dollars to go to a master class or to go to whatever conference that their work may send them to. And yet you sit down, you you show up, you bring a notebook, you're taking notes, you're doing all these things, and you walk out, they're like, Man, I really picked up some useful stuff I can take with me. But because it's free, it's like we take it for granted.
SPEAKER_00We pay for someone to tell us to eat lettuce, good protein, and what to work out, and we pay them a ton of money and we're like, it worked. We're like we have somebody who's gonna give us like this is their fruit of your life. Like, this is this not only like this is life-giving. I I kid you not, almost every time I walk in a service, I think this is so much more valuable than all of us are acting like it is.
Simple Steps For A Daily Routine
SPEAKER_01So if people are listening right now and they're looking for maybe next steps, they don't currently have a morning discipline uh like faith routine or a daily faith routine at whatever time of the day that works for them. You know, what what does it look like for you? Or and if it's not currently where you want it to be, like what's your goal and intention of getting it to where you want it to be?
SPEAKER_00My goal is always, and I would say this to anybody, is always to do it first. I mean, I think anything that matters needs to be done early and soon. And I think you can pretty much say it with anything, right? You want to have a you wanna to me I would set the intention of one of two things. I'm not leaving my room until I've spent I would even say two to five minutes is a fine starting point. I don't Think it needs to be long. It could just be one chapter. And I think what's so cool about we say it's hard to measure, but what's not hard to measure is like a chapter in let's say you open it up and you just go into Genesis and you read chapter one and it's the first. Just read chapter one, and then on the second, you read chapter two. And maybe it's like if I were starting over, I'd be like, all right, I'm just gonna read a chapter and then I'm just gonna pray on it for two minutes. That's gonna take three minutes, four minutes. So I think it's becoming consistent in creating the discipline of like I'm just gonna do this every single day, and those three minutes aren't wasted. I'm not gonna grab my phone. For me, what I what I currently do is I will wake up, I will go, you know, grab my water, coffee, and then I sit down, and I actually pull up on my phone. I pull up either the GCC app is what I'm using right now for proverbs that we're going through because it's got it broken out perfect. Um, and then the Bible app. But what I honestly really like is I like to read it and then I like to listen to it because I think reading, obviously, I think we retain a little bit differently, but I like to have it twice. And sometimes reading something two different times just isn't fun for me. Um, and I don't think I take a lot of time. I will read through it, I'll listen, and I'll kind of like think on it. And what ends up happening is the second time I'm like thinking through as it's going, so I'll miss a little bit more, but I'm trying to digest and take in like, okay, how can I use this today, or what am I missing, or what is being like spoken to me. And after that, I'll just take some time and I'll normally just sit and I'll sip on my coffee and kind of think about it. And I think a lot of times we spend that amount of time just scrolling or sitting or or thinking about what is our first thing we're going to do and making it just intentional, what we're doing right then, it's less than five minutes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, so one thing I will add, because you threw Genesis out there, is if you're new to jumping in the scripture and trying to just find a place to start, right? What I will always tell people, and I I'm not a Bible expert, I'll be the first one to tell you that, but what I have found useful in my own journey is to start in the gospels. It's you know, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, you know, you start there, go to Proverbs, read the Psalms, like start in places where I feel like there's a lot of content within there and words in the scripture that you can relate to and you can relate into your life. It's really hard when you start like how many people have been like, all right, I'm gonna read the whole Bible in one year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the Old Testament, especially if you're trying to get into it, is like a that's a tough start.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, people, I mean, I I bet you there's millions upon millions upon millions of people that have read, you know, the first few chapters of Genesis and then they gave up. Right? Because it's it's again, it's hard to relate to a lot of things in the Old Testament, especially you get to Leviticus, and then it's like so-and-so lived for 987 years.
SPEAKER_00You're like, My kids are always like, Why are they putting so many names? I'm like, they're trying to show you the connection and the genealogy.
SPEAKER_01So I'm not trying to say that that's not important, it is absolutely important to understand at some point to get into be able to see the full picture and how perfectly God created, you know, the entire word and story within the Bible. Um, but if you're new to your faith, but and even me who's I've been practicing my faith a long time, like it's still helpful for me to go back and be um, you know, starting in going through the gospels and the in the chap in the um different books that I said earlier. So, and and I've asked this also to our lead pastor, you know, I kind of told him, like, like if you if you know, if I'm talking to someone who's new in their faith, like where do you tell people to start? And because I told him, hey, this is my routine. I go the gospels to the proverbs to Psalms, and I kind of rinse and repeat. There's no wrong way or right way to do it, right? But you know, his his feedback to me was, you know, the there are themes in the Bible. And he's like, depending on, you know, kind of where you're at, like, pick a theme and start there. I thought that was a great way to look at it because that theme, that season that you're living in, if you start there, like, man, you can you can catch on really quick because you're like, this is hitting me right where I'm at right now.
SPEAKER_00Do you know where to find those?
SPEAKER_01Are they in what it say like that in like the Yeah, so like there's I there's a ton of like Instagram reels and you can go on Google and look at the themes of the Bible. And it what's cool is you can go in and you can just at the front where you have like everything laid out where all the books are, um, and you can highlight like these are the laws, these are the gospels, these are the you know, they'll kind of lay those out for you. So you can highlight those and then write write in your Bibles, and then you that way you can just go back and forth.
SPEAKER_00I because I never had anybody that walked me through, like example, Proverbs. I mean, you're like, oh, I go to Proverbs because it's like a month, and I'm like, I didn't know that. And and it's funny because I've now since went through Proverbs, and now that we're doing it as a church, I'm like, here it is again, 31 days. Like, it is a perfect month, basically. Uh, but I love that, especially for somebody, I would be like, Hey, you want to do that one month. We're on the we're in the second right now. Go two chapters. Well, I guess it'll probably be the later than the second when this comes out. But you can start any book, and honestly, the gospels are great. Like, and I know that there are can't remember the details, but there's like one where it's like, okay, this is great for somebody who's like just starting out in their faith. This is a little bit more detailed about like Christ's timeline. This is a little bit more like so. There's I know each gospel has a theme and is depending on where you're at, is like better to start at one book over another. And I don't know that exact order. Um, but there's so much stuff out there, and I think just being aware that we can always be improving in what we're trying to do. Um but what is your routine then? So you said you guys wake up, is that your routine?
SPEAKER_01That's our that's our routine currently, and as I said, it it ebbs and flows based off of the time of the year, the season we're in. Um as much as I hate to say that, you know, it's it it this is something that, and and I've told this to you and some others before of like it's something that I really used to like beat myself up over so often. Of like, I thought I had to have like this perfect routine, and if I didn't do it exactly the way I had it in my head, then then ultimately I was failing in my faith. And I finally came to the realization of like, no man, like it doesn't, there is no perfect routine, right? And so, you know, there's days like I told you when stuff happens and the morning looks a little different, like if I didn't get a chance to get in the word, like I would have looked at that as a failure. Instead, it's like, but I do have a 25-minute drive to the office, so I'll throw on a Rick Warren podcast, or you know, there's a million daily prayer podcasts that you're like five minutes. Like, it's not not so much to me the amount of time, it's the consistency that you are starting your day with the right foundation. And so if that's where you're at in your journey, like you're not failing, like you're constantly taking steps in the right direction. Maybe it's one step, maybe it's 10. It's gonna look different. Um, but as of right now, our routine is we get up in the morning, you know, grab some water, go outside. I've been hating coffee lately, so I was wondering why you said that when I was like I didn't cough and you're like, coffee's gonna be.
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I think it's a summertime thing, like when it's hot outside, like coffee just I don't do the whole iced coffee thing. That's just not on me. Um and and we the other the other probably the biggest thing that I've started is no social media, no social media, no checking work emails until I have finished. I thought you were gonna say in general, I was like, good for you. No, no, no. No, until until I lay the foundation with my faith, my devotion, my scripture, no social media, um, no emails.
SPEAKER_00Um and that's been a big deal. I love that. And I would a challenge that I would add to people that has helped me is that I think as kids and growing up, and um for me, probably until recently, it was always like God, like Christ was on this throne judging me, and me trying to be like, I gotta be, I gotta do, I gotta do what everybody says, and like, and he's just sitting there and I'm like, I gotta say the right thing. I gotta where whereas like throughout the day I'm not thinking that, but when I'm about to pray or read, I'm like, okay, I gotta get everything I can out of this, I gotta read this, I gotta do because this is what I'm supposed to do. When the truth is now I look like we're just friends. And how would I talk to a friend in Christ? Might crack jokes. And I think more and more people are talking about like it is literally just having a conversation, it's bringing him into your life and sharing it. And then while you're going through it, it's being like, hey, you're since you're with me, you can like guide me. And I think for me, and I think I said this in one of our our last group, I feel more like it's it's not a it's not so much about like trying to do the perfect thing in the small moment that I'm trying to have with him, but instead having every moment having him in there, but then a few moments where it's like, hey, let's sit over here and just like you and I walk through this, like help me in in like seeing what I'm not missing because I'm giving you all of my attention. Whereas throughout the day, it's maybe not I'm giving him all of my attention, but I'm allowing him to be intentional in it with me. I don't know if that makes sense, but I think for some people, instead of putting it like you're being judged to do these, instead, like just allow him to walk with you. And in those moments, it might not be right when you wake up that you know, maybe there's kids that wake you up and you're but it might be at lunch and you instead of starting with your meal, pray and be like, hey, just sit with me while I'm eating this. And I'm just gonna have my phone down and just talk to me. And I I want to talk to you, and you'll be surprised that you could just start smiling and laughing and you'll be like, Where did that come from? Like what? So I just wanted to like encourage you to not feel like you're being judged, but that you that you're building a relationship just like you would with anybody else.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So the
Four Week Plan And Rising Tribes
SPEAKER_01last thing I'll leave you guys with is you know, if you're looking for some some action steps, you know, if you're starting from zero, this is kind of what I would lay out. And that's look at it in a four-week cycle. Week one, you're starting with your you know, your new five-minute routine every day. Get into scripture, buy a daily devotional, whatever that may look like for you. Um, just focus on that for a week straight. Week two, right? Then start trying to pray. Sit in silence, right? Listen, um, whatever's on your heart, like just open, open up your mind and and have a conversation. It's gonna be weird, it's gonna be awkward at first, like, and that's fine. Um, but you have to start somewhere. Week three, I would say start adding it. If you have a family, add in the family component. That's as simple as like praying before meals, right? Like, and it it doesn't have to be this elaborate prayer. You know, I had a buddy growing up who his prayer every time he it was his turn to pray, he'd say, uh, what do you say? Like, good food, good meat, good God, let's eat. Like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like it doesn't have, but at least if you start incorporating that, like you're setting the foundation and the standard for your family of what faith can look like. Um, and then I'd say by week four, like you now have a rhythm, you have a routine. That routine's gonna continue to evolve and look different, and maybe it stays the same and short and quick, and maybe it becomes more elaborate and you're you're growing and you're off and running, but at least having a four-week frame four-week framework to start to begin this journey, I think is important. I think that's great.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I know next week uh we're gonna talk about the family pillar. So I think the the order that we're gonna be going is faith, family, fitness, leadership. Correct. So uh we'll get into whether you're married, kids, um dating. Yeah, whatever that is, I mean, it's all encompassing. And I think that when you start layering all these pillars, um the goal is is that we create discipline in all of our areas, that we're not gonna be perfect in any one, but it's that we're trying to raise them all up. And as we've talked, like there's always one that you're like, I'm feeling lacking, and that just might be where you need to put most of your um intention, but we always think faith has to be that foundational pillar where yeah, we just talked about we let it go, things happen, but we've always got to be coming back to that because that ties into everything we're doing in our life. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean it's it's layered and intertwined in in everything. So, you know, the the last thing is, you know, we launched the uh wait list for rising tribes. Um, so if that's something that you all are interested in, this is kind of a little bit of a look into what that will look like when you're in the network and and walking along the path with others that are that are on the journey. So Nick has you you've been posting it, the link, um, it's in the show notes.
SPEAKER_00Um if that's something we'll be putting more out there this week as well.
SPEAKER_01So looking forward to talking with you all next week, and we'll be back. Yep, have a good one.
